Crucifix

Around my neck it hangs heavy:
a ring of steel persecuting me,
accusing eyes perusing dark, dank depths-
the (de)basement of my subconscious.

Around my neck it hangs heavy:
i avoid its gaze- i close my eyes but it
burns my balded eyeballs, scalds my brain
as i hang my head in silent shame.

Around my neck it hangs heavy:
and i feel once open arms shut tight
my hand is loose- once raised clenched
an erstwhile weary warrior fallen.

Around my neck it hangs heavy:
i’m a coward to the constant calling voice
dead not by battle but in yellow stench
i cry for a rod of steel but stand spineless.

Around my neck it hangs heavy:
a symbol burned in black on burnished steel
a promise made and broken and
deep within hangs a heavy heart.

About Maitiu

I am a collection of aspects. A father, a husband, an uncle, a son, a teacher, an aspiring writer, an amateur photographer, a poor guitar player, a slightly better singer... Online however I am a 365er looking to find out what people make of my personal poetic musings and my photographs. Drop a penny in an old man's hat and let me know what you think...
